Aussie 19/U team take on the world in Canberra By Netball Australia
Australia’s 19/U team has completed a successful six-match Test Series against the English 19/U team and the New Zealand 21/U team at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra. For 19/U Australian captain Micaela Wilson, the past few days have been an amazing and demanding experience. “It’s been a pretty grueling week. We came in as a squad of about 25 we did a lot of training, seminars and education that was really hard work for two days, “Wilson explained. “Saturday morning the team was announced and it was actually a team of 13 as we were battling a couple of injuries and we weren’t sure how some of the girls would cope.” “For the last five-day we’ve had a Test Series against England 19/U and New Zealand 21/U teams. It was so great playing international competition, it was such an awesome experience. “It was such a massive honour to represent the country, to be bottom-age and then being named captain it was just a huge exciting time for me. “I’ve just loved every minute of it and it’s just been a really great experience to play international competition that I’ve never come up against. “Once you put on that green and gold uniform and cross that line it’s a whole new world and you know you’re representing the country and everything you do out there you want to do to the best of your ability to represent the girls, the coaches and the country.” 19/U Australian players will return to their home states tonight as the Diamonds Squad camp commences this evening at the AIS. 19/U Australian team Kelsey Browne (VIC) Lyndall Crichton (SA) Nicola Gray (NSW) (AIS) Chanel Gomes (QLD) (AIS) Mary Livesey (VIC) (AIS) Samantha Poolman (NSW) Stephanie Puopolo (VIC) Kate Shimmin (SA) (AIS) Verity Simmons (NSW) (AIS) Ellie Smart (WA) Ameliaranne Wells (QLD) Micaela Wilson (VIC) - Captain Stephanie Wood (QLD) (AIS) - Vice-captain |
